Introduction to a Future Game Developer

My name is Dylan Hogan and I am a Creative Digital Media student in Technological University Dublin. Welcome to my blog!

My favourite class I took last semester was Studio Photography and Image Production. I really liked this class because we learned such a variety of skills that I was personally interested in such as Photoshop and working with lighting in the studio. I found that there was so much extra time and thought you could put into those projects that we had and it just felt more personal especially assignments such as the Photoshop one where I had the freedom of creating anything I wanted.

My biggest accomplishment last semester was coming back to college after a major event that could have easily made me quit and I ended up doing really well in my grades even though I felt panicked at the time. That's definitely something that I'm proud of and looking back I can't believe how quickly I came back to college and caught up on everything.

My current goals for this module are simple, I want to do the best that I can and try and test myself in different ways. I have always liked writing so I hope to gradually get better at blogging and just getting used to writing posts in general. I also want to try put some extra time into developing whatever game I will create to see how good I can do with little experience.

I'm definitely a Film and TV buff so I spend a lot of time watching many different types of shows and films. Some examples of my favorite TV Series are Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Altered Carbon, Vikings and way more. The ones I love at the moment are "The Boys" and also "Mind hunters" which are two amazing on going series. Also a new Breaking Bad film is coming out so it's definitely a must to go back and watch that series. I even made a tribute for Vikings over 2 years ago when I randomly downloaded premiere and thought I would give it a try. Here is the video Vikings - Ragnar Lothbrok | My Tribute. Some of my favorite films are American History X, Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, Interstellar, Fight Club and many more.

I have a wide range of taste in music and it's something that has always kept me busy, listening and finding new music is something I love. 6lack is my current favorite artist. One of my all time favorite singers has to be Chris Cornell, I was lucky enough to see him live the year before he passed and he had the most amazing voice live. Here is one of his most popular songs from his band "Soundgarden", enjoy all those pixels too.

My goals are to complete Creative Digital Media and decide what area interests me the most and discover all the different potential jobs I could look for. It's said a lot but I just want to find something I love doing rather than finding something that just pays but I hate the actual job.

My biggest hobbies are mainly watching a lot of different sports and also gaming. Gaming is something that has always taken up a lot of my time. I'm mostly into First Person Shooters but I play a variety of games. Some of my favorites can be seen Here. I'm a huge fan of MMA and I watch as many events as I can that have the best match-ups, most of the best fights are usually on at 5 or 6 in the morning so you could definitely say my sleep schedule is awful. Some of my favorite fighters currently are Robert Whittaker, Nate Diaz, Jorge Masvidal, Khabib, Tony Ferguson, Stipe Miocic, Daniel Cormier and Dominick Cruz.

I'm also hugely into watching Choreography which a lot of people don't expect from me. One of my favorite Choreographers is "Fik-Shun" who blew up several years ago from a World of Dance video.

I have written a lot about me and I'm sure there is a lot more to talk about, for the sake of length I think that this is all the major stuff about me that I can think of!

  1. Hi Dylan!

Fair play on getting back to college so soon last year. It really is a testament to your dedication, and that strength alone will get you so far. I took a look at your YouTube channel and there is great content there! You have a lot of subscribers and a decent view count on each video. Keep that up - having an active audience could do wonders for your career when you are showcasing your personal work.

I'm in the same boat with finding a career that I like rather than the best paying one. I'd rather get by and be happy than be rich and miserable.

Great blog Dylan, well written and describes you well.

  2. Hi Dylan,

I find your positivity and drive really refreshing, returning to college after going through a hard time is tough enough, and doing well is really impressive. I did not know you were interested in choreography and had not heard of Fik-Shun before reading your post.

I really enjoyed reading your blog and finding out more about you,

    James

  3. Hi Dylan
Glad to hear you landed on your feet last year. As for the whole movie/TV buff thing I am the exact opposite to that I know nothing about TV or movies except some are good and some are bad. I can at least say that I have heard of all the shows and movies you listed so maybe there's hope for me yet.

As for the post I really enjoyed reading it and look forward to what is yet to come.

  4. Hi Dylan!

Interesting to see that your favorite module from last semester was Image Production. Personally, it was my least favorite. This is mostly due to the fact that unfortunately, the lecturer was absent for ninety percent of the semester, so I felt quite lost for a lot of it, but we got through it!

It's also great to see that you have so many opportunities for a future career with this course, especially now game development! It's amazing that you can turn a hobby into a career!

Good luck with everything, I can't wait to read more!

  5. Hi Dylan,
Just want to say fair play for bouncing back last year, that shows how strong you really are. When i read your blog I was getting the feeling of being positive through out the whole thing. Last year i didn't mind studio photography i thought it was kind of relaxing and i liked walking around the campus taking different pictures of the campus, but i didn't enjoy image production, i felt that i didn't really learn anything from it because the lecturer wasn't there for most of the time. Anyway I enjoyed reading your blog.
